Emergency Approach to Wisdom-Tooth Pain
An impacted or partly erupted wisdom tooth can become an emergency with inflammation of the surrounding gum (pericoronitis), swelling and difficulty opening the jaw. You may gently rinse with warm salt water and apply a cold compress from outside; avoid heat. In the emergency we first control pain and infection, then assess the tooth's position with digital imaging and draw up a suitable extraction plan.
